THE Johannesburg College of Education has agreed to a provisional merger with the University of the Witwatersrand, JCE announced on Tuesday. The move follows recommendations by a joint working group which has been investigating the viability of such an incorporation since September last year. Vice-rector of JCE, FP Faller, said: “The Council of the JCE approves the proposal, depending on the outcome of deliberations regarding service conditions of the college staff, transfer of students and study programmes.” Education Minister Kader Asmal advertised on June 29 his intention to incorporate the university and the college.
