SUN INVESTS R13m IN MAPUTO

South Africa’s Southern Sun Holdings has committed $13-million to build a new five-star Holiday Inn hotel in the Mozambican capital of Maputo. The seafront hotel will be built on the site of a derelict restauant in the centre of Maputo and is 75% owned by Southern Sun while Mozambique’s Tourism Company (Sotur) holds the remaining 25%. Mozambican industry, trade and tourism minister, Oldemiro Baloi, said on Monday that the initiative illustrates the massive opportunities in Mozambique for investors to use ‘waste ground’ for lucrative returns.
