The ashes of renowned anti-apartheid campaigner Archbishop Trevor Huddleston were laid to rest in Sophiatown this week, 15 months after his death. Only a handful of people attended the burial of the remains of the 84-year-old archbishop in the gardens of his former parish, where he lived during his almost 12 years in South Africa, the Sunday Times reported. Buchanan denied reports in Britain this week that the delay was related to a dispute over money. The archbishop received the African National Congress’highest award, the Isithwalandwe, for his efforts against apartheid. A public memorial service will be held later this year for Huddleston, Buchanan said.
