TOP ECAPE COP KILLED IN ACCIDENT

A TOP Eastern Cape policeman and former Justice Department official who was central to Bisho’s fight against corruption within and outside the government, Senior Superintendent Bangile Tom, has been killed in a mysterious accident on the N2 between East London and King William’s Town. Police believe that Tom, who was thrown two metres from the wreckage when his car left the road near the Nahoon Dam outside Mdantsane last Tuesday night, could have been trying to avoid a discarded truck tyre but they are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash. Eastern Cape safety and security MEC Dennis Neer, who has demanded a full report surrounding Tom’s death, disclosed at the weekend that Tom was the provincial government’s top corruption buster who oversaw all investigations of fraud, syndicate fraud and commercial crime.
