AIR FORCE CHOPPER CRASHES

ONE person was killed and two seriously injured in a helicopter crash in Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning. Police said Port Elizabeth airport control received a distress signal from the pilot of the Alouette 3 military helicopter from the First Forward Air Command at just after ten. A police aeroplane managed to spot the wreckage approximately 10km from the city in Bushy Park. The injured were rushed to the Policlinic in a serious condition. The helicopter was apparently on a routine flight when it crashed. It’s hoped a recorded call for help from the pilot might indicate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
