COSATU TO ANNOUCE STRIKE DECISION

THE Congress of South African Trade Unions is due to make a statement on Wednesday afternoon on whether it will support a call by public sector unions for nationwide mass action. The call comes in response to government’s decision to unilaterally implement a 6,3% wage increases. On Tuesday President Thabo Mbeki said there is no way his administration could accede to public service union demands for higher pay as there are other pressing issues in need of government funding.
