SOUTH African double Olympic swimming champion Penny Heyns thrilled the Durban crowds on Sunday when she cracked two World shortcourse records within an hour at the Mr Price Seagulls Winter championships at the Kings Park Pool. Earlier on Sunday morning, Heyns broke the 100m breaststroke record in a time of 1min 05,40 seconds beating her previous world best time of 1:05,57 as she registered her 13th world record — her 10th during the past nine weeks. She then opted to do a special favour to swim fans by doing a solo 50-metre time-trial and once again there was joy as she got home in a world record 30,60 seconds beating the old time of 30,77. Requested to go for a hat-trick of records, Heyns refused to swim a special 200-metre race saying the “distance is too far for me today.”
