African National Congress MP Duma Nkosi was shot and seriously injured during what police suspect to be an attempted hijacking in Johannesburg on Wednesday night. Nkosi, the chairman of Parliament’s minerals and energy portfolio committee, and his wife were sitting in their car outside a house in Senoaone at 6.10pm when four gunmen approached them and opened fire. Nkosi returned fire and the assailants fled. His wife was not injured in the attack, but the MP was rushed to the Lesedi Clinic, where six bullets were removed from his body — two from his chest, two from the abdomen and two from the right arm. On Thursday afternoon he was reportedly in a serious but stable condition.
