TRAIN DERAILS IN E CAPE

A TRAIN with 125 passengers on board derailed in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon, injuring one person, police said on Thursday. The derailment comes on top of a spate of bus crashes riddling the South African transport sector. Police spokeswoman Marianette Olivier said the train was travelling from De Aar to Port Elizabeth. It derailed when it reached a crossing in Klipplaat, near Uitenhage, at about 3.30pm. One person was slightly injured when seven coaches fell over. Only one of the seven coaches was carrying passengers, Olivier said. No further details were given.
