CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST BBC COPS

PROSECUTORS have dropped charges against ten of the 12 white policemen shown on a BBC documentary beating up black hijack suspects, one of whom later died. Only the two men actually involved in the beatings have been charged. The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union, representing mainly black policemen, has criticised the decision, saying all 12 men, including the 10 who stood by and watched the assault, should have been charged. The two who have been charged will appear in court on Friday.
