KEFU BACK FOR AUSTRALIA

NUMBER eight Toutai Kefu has returned to the Australia side for their World Cup semi-final against South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday after serving a two-match suspension for punching. Kefu, who scored three tries in Australia’s opening match against Romania, was suspended for punching in the group E match against Ireland. He missed the final group game against the United States and the quarter-final against Wales. He was ably replaced by Tiaan Strauss, the former Springbok captain who is getting his shot of World Cup glory after being controversially dropped from the 1995 South African squad. “Tiaan Strauss did a fine job against Wales,” Australian coach Rod Macqueen said on Tuesday. “But Toutai Kefu has been our number one choice at number eight during the year.” Macqueen said he would decide on Wednesday whether to keep Strauss in the 22-man squad or choose Mark Connors, who came on as a replacement against Wales. There were no other changes in the side announced after training on Tuesday.
