MIXED BAG FOR DISABLED ATHLETES

DISABLED swimmer Tadhg Slattery maintained his awesome form in shattering the 200m breaststroke World Record in the Homebush Bay Aquatic Centre in Sydney. Slattery collected 3 gold and 1 silver medal in his various events and should be included in the South African Paralympic Team bound for Sydney next year.

Meanwhile, the South African Mens Wheelchair basketball team narrowly missed qualifying for the Sydney Paralympic Games at the Afro Arab qualifying rounds in Algeria.

The tournament format was originally divided into 2 pools but changed to a round robin, winner takes all, when two countries failed to arrive. South Africa won 5 out of 6 games losing only to arch-rivals, Egypt, 66-44.
