RADEBE GIVES LEEDS VICTORY

SOUTH African defender Lucas Radebe scored in the dying minutes to give Leeds United a 1-0 win over Spartak Moscow on Thursday night and a place in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

Radebe’s late strike lifted the English Premiership side into a 2-2 third round aggregate draw with the Russians and they advanced by virtue of the two goals they scored in the away leg, which was played in Sofia, Bulgaria, last week.

Manager David O’Leary’s youngsters were exceptional on a night when Leeds played brave, free-flowing football before Radebe killed off Spartak by heading home from a corner.

Leeds, who made the last 16 in a European competition for the first time in 24 years, are joined in the fourth round by compatriots Arsenal.
