SOUTH Africa’s selectors have retained the squad that defeated England at Newlands for the fifth and final Test next week and have included Border captain Pieter Strydom to “cover” for injuries.
“Both Jonty Rhodes and Daryll Cullinan are carrying minor hamstring injuries, so we thought it best to cover ourselves by adding Strydom to the squad,” said selection convenor Rushdi Magiet.
South Africa gained a decisive 2-0 lead in the five-match series with an innings and 37 runs victory at Newlands on Wednesday. The final Test starts at Centurion Park on January 14.
The squad: Gary Kirsten, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Daryll Cullinan, Hansie Cronje (captain), Jonty Rhodes, Pieter Strydom, Lance Klusener, Shaun Pollock, Mark Boucher, Mornantau Hayward, Allan Donald, Paul Adams.
