ZIM INFLATION FALLS, TO 56%

ZIMBABWE’S annualised inflation rate fell for the second straight month in December, to 56,9%, according to official statistics made available Tuesday. The latest bulletin of the government’s Central Statistical Office (CSO) shows that inflation dropped from a record of 70,4% in October to 61,2% in November and shed another 4,3 percentage points in December. The average annual rate over the 12 months of 1999 was 58,5% compared with 31,7% in 1998, the CSO said.
