SOUTH Africa’s Wayne Ferreira, fresh from a Hopman Cup triumph, was brought down to earth in stunning fashion when he was blasted in straight sets by Andre Agassi in the Kooyong Classic.
Last year’s No.1 blasted the South African 6-2, 6-4 in just 57 minutes, thriving on the super-fast hardcourt conditions juiced up by sticky temperatures.
“I think it was a good start today,” said Agassi. “Tough conditions, it is not only hot but the court was playing quick, really quick.
“The ball was jumping around pretty good and I was pretty much controlling the ball, but I’m hoping for it to get better.
Ferreira, fitter than he has been for a couple of years, said Agassi was hitting the ball well.
“It’s good to play someone like Andre so early in the year as it gives you an idea as to how you are faring,” he said.
