ANDY CAPOSTAGNO, Houghton | Friday 8.00pm.
NAMIBIA’S Trevor Dodds leads the Alfred Dunhill Challenge half way through the second round at waterlogged Houghton.
Dodds played 32 holes on the second day after only completing four before the light closed in on Thursday night.
He shot a three under par 69 in his opening round and after a quick cup of tea it was straight back out for his second round in persistent rain. He started slowly, but birdied six of the last 12 holes to finish with a tournament low round of 65, putting him at 10 under par after two rounds.
Dodds leads by two shots from Anthony Wall, the son of a London taxi driver and by four from British Ryder Cup pair Paul Broadhurst and Peter Baker, and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentinia.
On five under par there are two South Africans with good pedigrees; Des Terblanche, who these days plays most of his golf in Asia and Nic Hennig who won his first pro tournament at Royal Cape just before Christmas.
Play was suspended at 4 o’clock when the rain became really bad and flooded the greens, but remarkably an hour and a half later the clouds lifted and the late starters had the best weather of the day.
Play ended at 6:40 with half the field still on the course and will recommence Saturday morning at 7 o’clock.
