JOHN Wayne’s just not what he used to be. When the modern-day version, an awaiting-trial prisoner being held in the Richard’s Bay police holding cells, tried to make a daring escape with seven other prisoners on Wednesday night, he failed to live up to the tough reputation of his namesake of Western movie fame. John Wayne and one accomplice were almost immediately re-arrested, while the six others managed to bolt for freedom. The escape brings to more than 100 the number of prison escapes in Richard’s Bay this year. The six prisoners still at large are wanted for crimes ranging from theft to murder.
