NIGERIAN football skipper Sunday Oliseh has been severely criticized by a Tunisian newspaper for comments which the paper believes may hinder Africa’s chances to organize the 2006 World Cup. A storm of protest came from the Nigerian camp when Viktor Ikpeba’s penalty in the shoot-out, which video images showed clearly crossed the line, was not given and they eventually lost the African Nations Cup final 4-3 on penalties to Cameroon. Oliseh told French daily L’Equipe that: “This type of decision would never have happened in Europe. It’s shameful for the African continent.” Tunisian daily Le Temps hit back: “The declaration of Oliseh is like a knife in the back of African football who are hoping to organize the 2006 World Cup.”
