THE Stockpoort border post between South Africa and Botswana was reopened to light traffic on Wednesday, three weeks after the Limpopo River burst its banks. It is now one of only two border posts between South Africa and its northern neighbours that are open. Northern Province police spokesman, Captain Ronel Otto, said the Beit Bridge border post, which is the main border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, was also open. “Stockpoort and Beit Bridge are the only two border posts open to traffic,” she said. Only vehicles lighter than 2000 tons will be allowed to cross the bridge at Stockpoort, and only at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. The Groblersbrug, Zanzibar, Platjan, Pontdrift and Pafuri border gates have been closed indefinitely.
