FORMER Vlakplaas operative David Ras told the TRC that he had no choice but to kill a 15-year-old boy during a raid on a Botswana transit home for activists in 1988. Ras admitted that he killed the boy, but said that he ran the risk of being identified if he did not kill Phanduwana Tawana. Ras is one of eight other security policemen, including former Vlakplaas commander Eugene de Kock, who want amnesty for the bombing of an ANC transit house in Botswana in December 1988. Tawana, Raphula Thika, Mshengu Bahumi and Motsebe Mapua were killed in the attack.
