ANC HIGHLIGHTS RACISM ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

THE African National Congress called on all South Africans to intensify the struggle against racism in its message for Human Rights Day on Tuesday. Human Rights Day marks the anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre, in which 69 black anti-apartheid demonstrators were murdered by police in 1960. “Forty years after the Sharpeville massacre we mark Human Rights Day in a democratic country”, the ANC statement said. “We are celebrating how far we have come in our fight against inhumanity and racism and looking forward to the challenge of finally removing the problem of the colour line. We make all these calls with the understanding that racism will not end on its own, but rather it requires a concerted effort of all South Africans in a day to day fighting for change.”
