SuperSport through to Bob Save finals

THE magic wand waved by Bruce Grobbelaar continues to bring forth success for SuperSport United as they reached the Bob Save Super Bowl quarter-finals at Caledonian Stadium on Friday night.

Success was achieved through a 33rd-minute goal from David Notoane, his second vital input within six days after snatching the late equaliser in an African Cup Winners Cup tie in Mozambique last weekend.

Cameroonian Jean-Paul Bang-Penda provided the sort of through ball that strikers dream of and former Santos star Notoane made no mistake to kill off a rather timid challenge from the MTN First Division outfit.

Holders SuperSport should have won more handsomely, but a win is a win and that is something United have got used to achieving since former Liverpool and Zimbabwe star Grobbelaar arrived two months ago.

He has taken them out of the relegation zone in the Castle Premiership and they host AmaZulu in the Bob Save quarter-finals next month believing further progress is an obtainable goal.

An early second-half header from Alban Newman secured a 1-0 away win for the Usuthu over Mother City at Greenpoint Stadium and their second success in Cape Town inside six days.

Manning Rangers set up a possible money-spinning home clash with Kaizer Chiefs after comfortably disposing of Mabopane Young Masters with Fees Moloi scoring twice in a 3-1 triumph at Chatsworth Stadium.

Mozambican international Helder ‘Mane Mane’ Muianga put the Mighty Maulers ahead midway through the first half and Moloi struck either side of half-time while Percy Maletsa was on target for the no-so-masterly Masters.
