TROPICAL cyclone Hudah dissipated overnight on Saturday after causing substantial damage and at least one death in central and northern Mozambique, the national institute of meteorology said. “Cyclone Hudah now belongs to the past,” meteorologist Mussa Mustafa exclaimed. Mustafa said the cyclone died down in the south of Nampula province on Saturday night after moving mainly through the coastal districts of Pebane, Moma and Angoche where it left one person dead and four others injured. Pebane, in the central Zambezia province, was the worst-affected. Cyclone Hudah ravaged Madagascar last week, killing 20 people and affecting 300000. It died down to a tropical low, but later developed back into a fully-fledged cyclone. In February and March an estimated 700 people were killed in flood-related incidents in Mozambique and tens of thousands were left homeless after two cyclones hit the country.
