PHILIP “the time-bomb” Ndou will defend his WBA International title on the Lennox Lewis vs Michael Grant undercard on April 29. An added bonus is that Ndou’s bout, which is being staged at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, will be shown on HBO. To date Ndou, the current number-five WBA contender, has scored 13 knockouts in 13 wins with 1 loss. If Ndou can continue his blitzkrieg of knockouts, he’s sure to score big on the International stage. He’ll be defending his title against Mexico’s Edgar Barcenas, a WBC continental champion, who has a record of 18 wins, 4 losses, 3 draws with 13 knockouts. Following this bout Ndou will have to defend his title against his number-one contender. After that however, Ndou’s promoter, Branco Milenkovic is confident of securing his charge a world title bout. There’s already talk of Ndou getting a shot at the winner of the Paul Ingle vs Junior Jones fight for the IBF featherweight world title. The man Ndou wants the most, however, is Naseem Hamed. “I believe that I’m the only fighter in the world who can beat Hamed.” says Ndou. Given Ndou’s startling punching power and Hamed’s lack of defence, he could certainly cause an upset against the WBO champion. It would however be a case of who lands first, as Hamed too has a phenomenal punch, just ask Vuyani Bungu.
