Dynamos accused of match-rigging

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Cape Town | Tuesday 11.45am.

ALLEGATIONS of match-fixing in the MTN first division will be adressed by the Premier Soccer League on Tuesday after league-leaders Dynamos were accused of bribery by City Sharks.

PSL spokesman Andrw Dipela said that a letter of complaint was received from City Sharks after they were allegedly offered R10000 to lose a match.

According to the letter, Dynamos chairman Peter Rabali promised to pay Sharks R10000 if they lost a match — won 2-0 by Dynamos — played on April 14.

Rabali allegedly paid Sharks R7000 and said that he would pay the balance on April 16. Sharks handed the R7000 over to the PSL.

Dipela said in a statement that the League views the allegations “seriously” and that the matter has been forwarded to the MTN League investigations committee which met on Monday.

Rabali has denied the claims, saying that they are “nonsense”. Rabali told the The Sowetan that the accusations are motivated by jealousy, with people not wanting to see Dynamos promoted into the lucrative PSL.

Earlier this year Sharks blew the whistle on Mabopane Young Masters chairman John Kungoane, who was found guilty of corruption and handed a life ban. Kungoane was found putting R1000 into the car of a match official, who earlier officiated in the match between Sharks and Young Masters.
