Crash this party

Riaan Wolmarans

Hot on the heels of this weekend’s countrywide Global Underground parties with Dave Seaman comes an equally exciting event – the Gatecrasher Disco- Technology Tour, brought out by ICE Productions, Ericsson and 5fm.

The Gatecrasher clubbing phenomenon started as a bank-holiday party in Birmingham in 1994, and from these humble beginnings it quickly developed into the superclub it is today. The club’s popularity has even caused its fiercely loyal followers to be known as Gatecrasher Kids, and their continued support caused Gatecrasher, which underwent major renovations last year, to win club of the year awards in 1999 from The Guardian, The Times, Muzik Magazine and Ministry Magazine. It’s also consistently been at the top of Muzik Magazine’s exclusive list of premier- league clubs.

Gatecrasher’s resident DJ list reads like a who’s who of dance, and includes turntable gurus such as Judge Jules, Paul van Dyk, Scott Bond, Matt Hardwick and John Kelly. The resident DJs who are headlining this tour are Hardwick and Kelly. Hardwick has been mixing it up for the last 10 years and his sound is described as “tough, deep and progressive, moving towards energetic trance”. Kelly has been DJing since 1985 and also plays at other top United Kingdom clubs such as Cream and Ministry of Sound.

-The Gatecrasher tours are renowned for the extravagant lighting and sound used, along with all the bells and whistles that make for a really good dance event. This all strives to recreate the unique atmosphere of freedom, individuality and glamour present in the actual club, so book some time in your weekend, dress to kill and get along for a great dance experience.

Gatecrasher visits Dockside in Cape Town on Friday May 5 and Wembley Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday May 6. Tickets are R85 for Cape Town and R95 for Johannesburg (R150 for VIP) at Ticketweb (www.ticketweb.co.za or: Tel: 0861 400 500)
