IN developments outside the King Commission, papers have been served to challenge Judge Edwin King’s decision last week not to allow television cameras to record evidence given to the Commission. Last week e-tv and Live Africa Network News had asked Judge King to allow cameras into the hearings in an effort to make proceedings more accessible to the public. The two broadcasters cited the public right to freedom of speech and information, with arguments around the case delaying the start of the hearings last week. At the start of the hearings on Wednesday last week, the UCB legal team said that it does not object to the hearings being broadcast, but lawyers representing the players said that they would prefer if television cameras were removed. The decision to serve papers on the Commission comes after television cameras were allowed to record the testimony of United Cricket Board chief Dr Ali Bacher on Tuesday.
