TWO of the world’s leading medical and emergency assistance companies have merged operations in Africa to address the needs of corporate clients there. International SOS (SOS) and Medical Rescue International of Africa (MRI) said the “multi-million dollar” merger would allow them to provide better medical care and emergency aid to local and multinational clients operating in Africa. The clients include companies involved in oil and gas operations as well as mining and construction sites in remote areas of the continent. “The merger offers opportunities to both companies involved and a more extensive range of assistance, medical and security services to our local and multinational clients who are investing in projects on the African continent,” said SOS president and chief executive officer Arnaud Vaissie. Paul Davis, chairman of the Africa-based MRI Holdings, said the alliance will have an extensive network of contacts which includes government and non-government organisations. – AFP
