SCHOOL AFFAIRS SPARK CLASS BOYCOTTS

MATRIC pupils at a secondary school in Thohoyandou, Northern Province, are boycotting classes in an attempt to stop teacher-pupil affairs, which they say contribute to the high failure rate at the school. Students’ Representative Council president Livhuwani Mugumo said the school authorities were doing nothing about two teachers who openly boasted about having affairs with pupils. The pupils are also protesting the cancellation of the matric farewell dance. “The teachers approached us with the idea of having the function, but now they have turned it down because they are saying we will beat them when we are drunk,” Mugumo said. The principal, Solomon Neswiswi, said the pupils were lazy and were making excuses to dodge classes. – African Eye News Service
