ANC member gets lucky at casino

PHILLIP NKOSI, Nelspruit | Monday

A RISING star in Mpumalanga’s ANC ranks has been banned from the swish Emnotweni Casino in Nelspruit for two years after he was caught having sex in the toilets.

Sipho Monareng, a member of the ANC constituency in Hazyview, was caught with his pants down by a security guard in the toilets of the R80m casino, which is frequently visited by tourists from Mozambique and Swaziland.

According to the casino, which confirmed the lurid act, Monareng was banned for two years after he was caught with an unnamed woman on September 30.

Monareng, who served as assistant public relations officer for the Nelspruit City Council until August, denied the act.

“These are just lies and as far as I known the issue was resolved at the police station,” he said. He would not confirm or deny allegations that he had paid a fine of R1_ 000.

Monareng is expected to stand as an ANC candidate in the coming local elections, though provincial ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu refused to comment on this.

“I don’t know the person and its none of my business, or of the ANC, to know who has sex with whomever,” he said.

Mthembu, however, confirmed that he knows Monareng’s brother, Themba, who is the ANC’s regional secretary.

“This is a private matter that does not need our comment,” Mthembu added.

Provincial leader of the Democratic Alliance Clive Hatch said Monareng’s behaviour was irresponsible and he should not stand for the elections.

“We need people of highest integrity,” he said. – African Eye News Service
