ETHIOPIA, ERITREA SIGN PEACE AGREEMENT

ETHIOPIA and Eritrea have signed a peace agreement formally ending a two-year border war that cost tens of thousands of lives in the impoverished Horn of Africa. The conflict between the two nations, often plagued by famine and drought and among the world’s poorest countries, erupted in May 1998 following frequent border skirmishes. Eritrea was a province of Ethiopia before winning its independence by referendum in 1993. – Reuters
