NOMADS from neighbouring Chad killed 11 villagers including a baby in the north of the Central African Republic (CAR) in attacks last week, state radio reported on Monday. The assailants torched 65 homes at dawn and shot arrows at those who attempted to flee, then headed back to Chad, the radio said. Police on both sides of the porous border were cooperating in efforts to identify the attackers. Damage by the nomads’ herds to plantations in the CAR have sparked repeated and sometimes violent disputes in the area, which is also prone to cross-border incursions by bandits who loot remote villages, killing people and committing rapes. – AFP
