ONE KILLED ON SUDANESE BOMBING RUN

ONE person was killed and two were wounded when government warplanes dropped bombs on civilians gathered at an airstrip in the Nuba Mountains region of central Sudan, missionaries said on Wednesday. The Antonov planes dropped 14 bombs at Kauda airstrip where the people had gathered on Monday to bid farewell to visiting representatives of Italian aid agencies and to carry goods brought by the visitors, according to a statement. The area where the airstrip is located is controlled by the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), the statement said. – AFP
