THE Portuguese government on Wednesday signed an agreement with the Mozambique government to disburse $18m to support flood victims in this southern African country, a year after devastating floods in southern and central Mozambique. Pledged at a donors’ conference last May, the money arrived almost a year late. The governors of the Manica, Sofala, Tete and Zambezia provinces on Wednesday said this year’s flooding in central Mozambique claimed the lives of 109 people and displaced some 300_000 others, most of whom are now temporarily housed in accommodation centres.
