OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Wednesday
THE United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu) and the SA Logistics, Services and Allied Workers Union (Salstaff) have reached an agreement with Spoornet management on a wage increase, Spoornet said in a statement.
Spoornet representative Mike Asefovitz said the agreement was reached with two of the three unions involved in the annual wage negotiations.
The parties agreed on a 7.5% wage increase effective from April 16, Asefovitz said.
He said they also agreed on an increase in the house ownership assistance subsidy to 10% of salary, subject to minimum of R313 per month and a maximum of R600 per month. An increase in the Transmed medical aid fund subsidy to 9% of salary, subject to a minimum of R213 per month and a maximum of R700 per month, was also agreed.
He said Spoornet was unable to reach an agreement with the SA Trade and Allied Workers Union (Satawu), as the union temporarily suspended negotiations in order to consult with their constituency and seek a fresh mandate.
“As a result of the partial settlement, some of our employees have been participating in industrial action. The action has had an impact on Spoornet services and some delays in traffic have been experienced.” he said.
