MPUMA PREMIER CONDEMNS FARM ATTACKS

MPUMALANGA Premier Ndaweni Mahlangu on Wednesday condemned the ongoing farm attacks in the province. This follows four attacks that were reported in a single day on Monday. One farmer was shot in the stomach, a couple was beaten and a pensioner tied up. The incidents brought to 24 the number of farm attacks reported to the media since the start of the year. “We cannot allow such a situation to continue perpetually unchallenged,” said Mahlangu. “People must begin to accept one another.” He urged farmers not to take law into their hands and called on police to make a speedy arrest. Police have arrested one suspect, an 18-year-old youth, so far. He is accused of tying up Hester Mahoney (69) after he and another man asked her for work at Brakpan Farm in Hendrina. – African Eye News Service
