TWO QUESTIONED OVER MAGISTRATE’S MURDER

TWO men were detained for questioning on Tuesday night in connection with the murder of Pinetown magistrate Tony Hofert on Monday, Durban police said. Hofert, who died on his 46th birthday, was shot dead shortly after dropping his child off at a local high school. Captain Vishnu Naidoo said on Wednesday that a vehicle believed to have been used in Hofert’s murder was recovered. Naidoo said the two men were taken in for questioning after intensive investigations by the Durban Murder and Robbery Unit. Shortly after Hofert left his child at school a vehicle crashed into the rear of his BMW. Both drivers got out of their cars and argued. The second driver withdrew a gun and fired several shots, hitting Hofert in the chest. – Sapa
