ANGOLAN OFFICIAL GOES MISSING

A RANKING official of Angola’s opposition Social Renovation Party (PRS) in central highland Bie province has been missing for ”several days” and may have been killed, party leader Eduardo Kuangana told the Lusa news agency on Wednesday. Domingos Manuel Ningueve went missing last week when he was on a private visit to the Camacupa district east of Cuito. ”We have no official information on the incident”, Kuangana said, adding that a message from PRS leaders in Bie had indicated that Ningueve was killed after first being abducted by unknown assailants. The PRS controls six of the 230 seats in the Angolan parliament, where it is the third largest formation after the ruling MPLA party and the main opposition Unita-Renovada (a pro-peace faction that broke from the outlawed Unita rebels three years ago). -Sapa-AFP
