THE tiny Afghan community in South Africa — about 30 strong — appealed to the Bush administration to show restraint in the wake of last Tuesday’s terror attacks on New York and Washington. The man the United States government suspects is behind the attacks, Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden, lives in Afghanistan as a guest of the country. Nasrullah Khan, an Afghan expatriate who runs a small restaurant in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, expressed doubt as to bin Laden’s guilt. Khan also expressed doubt that bin Laden could receive a fair trial in the US if he were handed over by Afghanistan. – Sapa
