The Freedom Front (FF) on Sunday said it was considering to obtain a court interdict against Statistics South Africa because census forms were only available in English. Representative Pieter Mulder said if necessary, the FF was prepared to approach the Constitutional Court on the matter. ”This could lead to the extension of the census period, or even to the temporary suspension of the process until the necessary forms are available,” Mulder said. He said before the census kicked off, the relevant department assured the FF that census forms in Afrikaans, as well as in the other official languages, would be available for people requesting forms in a particular language. Mulder said the FF was inundated with complaints from people who could not be provided with Afrikaans census forms on their request. – Sapa
