‘Even Christians should use condoms’

Mafikeng | Monday

EVEN Christians should use condoms because they are human beings of flesh and blood, North West health MEC Molefi Sefularo said on Sunday.

”Be faithful and condomise, let us do so without the underlying attitude being that those that will be infected will be reaping the results of sin or weakness of inability to sustain,” Sefularo said in a speech.

He was speaking at an Aids rally at the Mafikeng Stadium on Sunday. The gathering was organised by the religious community in the province.

Sefularo said he had met Christians who told him that because they were ”flesh and blood, they are bombarded by temptations.”

He appealed to Christians to treat those infected with HIV/Aids with compassion and understanding.

”Let our declaration of our determination to fight HIV, to take care of the infected and respect their rights, not be undermined by reactionary or backward attitudes.”

Sefularo said it was important that the Christian message of abstention from sex before marriage be reinforced and spread as far and wide as possible.

”For us the condom should not be a substitute for a strong faith and loyalty to the teachings of Christianity. It is a means of survival,” said Sefularo. – Sapa
