52 people burnt, hacked to death in Uganda

At least 52 villagers were massacred in northern Uganda at the weekend by rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a military representative told AFP on Monday.

Northern Uganda-based army representative Lieutenant Paddy Ankuda said that the LRA rebels attacked villagers of Lapono in Pader district’s Agago county, hacking to death some 18 people and herding another 34 into their grass-thatched huts before setting

them ablaze.

No independent sources could be reached to give details on the incident, which occurred Saturday night. – Sapa-AFP
