The state arms agency, Armscor, on Sunday said the Department of Justice’s specialised commercial crime unit had been given access to all documentation it might require in order to investigate the alleged smuggling of missile technology to Chile.
Armscor in a statement said the unit had also been invited to interview any employee in the course of its investigation.
An internal investigation into the matter is also being conducted.
Armscor chief executive Sipho Thomo said the agency was fully aware of the necessity to adhere to policies and procedures related to the import and export of products, systems and technologies.
Detectives raided the agency two weeks ago and removed a number of personal computers and cellphones.
Contacted on Sunday to comment on the investigation, National Directorate of Public Prosecutions representative Sipho Ngwema said it was ”still underway.”
He said he would next comment on the matter when the
investigation was completed. – Sapa
