De Klerk condemns bomb attacks

South Africans should not allow a tiny minority of fanatics to interfere with the promotion of reconciliation and a strong, united and peaceful South Africa, former president FW de Klerk said on Wednesday.

In a statement, De Klerk said he wished to express his shock and horror at the bombings in Soweto and Bronkhorstspruit earlier in the day.

”It is not yet known who is responsible for these outrages. What is clear is that all South Africans should firmly condemn anyone who resorts to violence and murder to promote his cause.

”We should not allow a tiny minority of fanatics to interfere with our determination to promote reconciliation and to build a strong united and peaceful South African nation,” De Klerk said.

The former president appealed to the public to provide information to help police arrest those responsible.

He also expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the victims of the bombings. – Sapa
