A 21-year-old Pretoria youth, who stands accused of murdering his parents and brother, has blamed his dead brother for the killings, SABC news reported on Monday.
Karl Greyvensteyn is currently on trial in Pretoria’s High Court where he faces three charges of murder and two relating to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Karl has pleaded not guilty on two charges of murder, saying he never shot dead his parents in their home two years ago.
The 21-year-old has, however, admitted to murdering his brother.
In a written plea statement, Karl told Johan Els, a Pretoria High Court judge, that he killed his brother, because he had murdered their parents.
He said he realised his brother had shot dead their parents when he arrived at the scene of their death.
Karl said he was ”absolutely shocked” when he saw what had happened, to such an extent that he lost self-control.
Otto Greyvensteyn (50), his 48-year-old wife, Erika and their eldest son Christo were discovered by police in their beds in the early morning hours of July 6, 2000.
They had all been shot in their heads.
Pretoria Murder and Robbery detectives arrested Karl only a few hours after the murders were committed. The hearing continues. – Sapa
