A 51-year-old man injured in one of the nine bomb blasts in Soweto underwent an emergency operation at the Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Hospital representative Hesther van den Heever said doctors had to stitch up injuries to Simon Sikwati’s face and one arm.
She was not sure of his condition but before Sikwati went into theatre, he was conscious and in a stable condition.
Sikwati was injured and his 42-year-old wife Claudina Mokane, killed when debris from a bomb blast hit their shack in the Protea South informal settlement while they lay sleeping.
The couple appeared to be the only casualties in the Soweto explosions.
Two people were slightly injured after an explosion at the Buddhist temple at Bronkhorstspruit, east of Pretoria, on Wednesday.
It was not immediately clear if it was linked to the Soweto blasts and police did not know if the explosion was caused by an explosive device or a short-circuit. – Sapa
