London murder suspect flees to New York

A man wanted for questioning about a murder in which the victim’s body parts were found strewn around a housing project has fled to New York, police said on Monday.

Hampshire police said officers believe Richard Markham (27) boarded a British Airways flight to John F Kennedy International Airport on Friday night.

A Hampshire police representative described Markham as ”very dangerous” and said officers had sent Interpol police in Washington a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives want to question him about the death of Tristian Lovelock (25) whose severed head was discovered last week by a man walking his dog at a park in Basingstoke, southwest of London.

Police found some human remains in a house in the nearby St Nicholas Court housing project and discovered other body parts in the park and in the back garden of a home in the project.

Markham and Lovelock were last seen drinking together at a house in another part of town on Thursday evening. ”They were known to each other but I cannot say if they were friends. I’m still trying to establish the relationship between them,” said police Superintendent John James.

An autopsy found that Lovelock died from head injuries caused by a blunt object. – Sapa-AP
