An SA Airways employee tried to commit suicide after he was arrested for stealing laptops, cameras, cellphones and DVDs from airline passengers’ luggage, police said on Wednesday.
The man, whose fellow employees allegedly saw him taking goods to his private vehicle, was confronted by airport security personnel on Tuesday.
He allegedly admitted to stealing the goods and later accompanied police to his Kempton Park flat where more stolen goods were recovered, said Captain Sophie Mayisela.
On finding out that he was to be arrested, the man tried to kill himself by jumping out of the window of his three story apartment.
Mayisela said the suicide attempt left him only slightly injured and police, who took him to Thembisa Hospital, had him transferred to police cells that same day. – Sapa
