Six Eastern Cape government officials were arrested in King William’s Town on Wednesday morning in connection with bribery allegations, the Scorpions reported.
The six, all employees of the transport department, allegedly received kick-backs totalling over R100 000 after awarding contracts to bus operators in the Transkei region since 1999.
They were apprehended around 8.30am at their offices in a joint operation by the Scorpions and the SA Police Service, regional Scorpions head Karen Geyer said.
Police were still searching for one of the suspects who was on sick-leave.
The six would appear in court soon on charges of fraud and corruption, Geyer said. – Sapa
